Understanding Financial Guidelines

We exist to care for all those who present themselves to us, whatever their need, regardless of race, creed or gender. We will provide health services to the medically underserved as far as resources provide, while maintaining the long term integrity of service to our community.

Financial assistance is available to those persons who are uninsured or underinsured and receive care. Based on our guidelines, this program allows for partial or full assistance depending on your eligibility criteria. The following is a list of criteria that we follow, according to federal guidelines:

  • Must provide Proof of income such as a pay stub or bank records, or
  • Tax return including a schedule C, if you are self-employed
  • TWC (Texas Workforce Commission) wage report-for the last 4 quarters if you are unemployed or have an unemployed spouse
  • Any other income resources
  • Number of dependents
  • Amount of hospital bill(s)
Simply by filling out the financial application available to you from our Business Office, and providing proof of your income, we will quickly determine your level of assistance. For example: If your hospital bill totaled $65,000.00 and your income is $50,000/year, with up to four people in your household, you would be eligible for an economic assistance adjustment of nearly 85% on your current balance owed to the hospital. We would write off $55,000.00 and work with you on a monthly basis, to pay the remaining amount for up to three years, totally interest free. The only procedures not considered for financial assistance are cosmetic related procedures and wound care.

Uncompensated care is provided to those who meet CHRISTUS Good Shepherd's policy for financial assistance. CHRISTUS Good Shepherd also provides assistance for the Medically Indigent, who are those persons whose insurance benefits leave them owing a substantial part of the hospital bill. Those who have no coverage or may otherwise be employed and do not meet criteria for Federal or other aid may also be eligible for assistance at CHRISTUS Good Shepherd.
